Bill J . Priest Scholarship

The Bill J. Priest scholarship pays tribute to the remarkable founding Chancellor of the DCCCD, whose impressive leadership in launching and building one of the outstanding community college systems in the country has left a remarkable and continuing legacy for Dallas.

Amount of Award
Up to $1,000 per academic year ($500 per semester)

Number of Awards Per Year
Varies per available funds

Designated College
Any DCCCD College - availability rotates annually between campuses

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate leadership through involvement in academic, church and/or community-based activities. They must also demonstrate scholarship by maintaining a 3.0 GPA (B average) and by participating in activities such as honors society involvement, academic club memberships, or selecting academically vigorous course work.

Application Process
Applicants must submit the following to the Financial Aid Office at the college they wish to attend:

  • Completed DCCCD Foundation scholarship application form
  • One letter of recommendation from a high school or college mento
  • One-page typed essay describing why you want to be a Bill J. Priest Scholar. Essay should include experience and academic qualifications.


Selection Process

  • Phase I - Financial Aid Office forwards applications of top five candidates to the Foundation Office.
  • Phase II - Foundation Scholarship Committee determines the final winners.

Recipient Requirements
Recipients must successfully complete a minimum of nine credit hours per semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss of scholarship benefits.

Deadline
For application: Second week of April to Financial Aid Office.
Finalist applications to Foundation: Second week of May.
Notification to students: Third week in July.
