Dr. Walter L. Pike Scholarship Fund

Dr. Walter L. Pike was the first Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs for the Dallas County Community College District and was part of the building program for the seven campuses. He was with the District from 1966 until his retirement in 1983.

He received a PhD from the University of Texas in Austin, an M.B.E. from NTSU and an A.A. from the Lon Morris Junior College. He had been a CPA since 1962. Dr. Pike was active in Texas and National College Business Officers Associations. He interned with the National College and University Business Officers in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 1980. Dr. Pike died on March 31, 1991. An endowed scholarship was established in his name to honor his memory and to benefit students majoring in Accounting.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Applicants must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Applicants must enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credit hours each semester.
  • Applicants must have a declared major in Accounting.

Application Process
Applicants must submit the following to the DCCCD Financial Aid Office of the campus they are attending:

Selection Process

  • Phase I - Financial Aid Director at each college will select one application to submit to the Foundation Office.
  • Phase II - Foundation Scholarship Committee determines final winner.

Recipient Requirements
Recipients must successfully complete at least six credit hours per semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA or better. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss of their scholarship benefits. Recipients of this scholarship must write a letter of thanks to the donor.

For application: 3rd Friday in May

Finalist applications to Foundation: First Week in June
