Bill and Mary Mitchell Scholarship

The Bill and Mary Mitchell Scholarship was initially created in 1997 to honor Mr. Mitchell, a former member of the Foundation Executive Committee and Board, for his ten years of excellent service. In 1998 Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell endowed the scholarship to continue in perpetuity. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student with a declared major in either Math/Science/Engineering or the Arts.

Amount of Award
Up to $1,000 per student, per academic year ($500 per semester)

Number of Awards Per Year
Varies per available funds.

Designated College
Any DCCCD College.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be a US citizen, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours with a declared major in either Math/Science/Engineering or the Arts.

Application Process
Applicants must submit a completed DCCCD Foundation Scholarship Application with a letter describing why they are deserving of the Bill and Mary Mitchell scholarship to the Financial Aid Director at his/her college. LETTER MUST BE TYPED.

Selection Process

  • Phase I - Financial Aid Office at each college will select one application to submit to the Foundation Office
  • Phase II - Foundation will determine final winner.

Recipient Requirements
Recipients must successfully complete 6 credit hours per semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA or better. Failure to meet these requirements could result in reduction or loss of scholarship benefits. Recipients of this scholarship must write a letter of thanks to Bill and Mary Mitchell.

Deadline
For application: Second week in April.
Finalist applications to Foundation: Second week in May.
Notification to students: third week in July.
