Stewart Fine Arts Memorial Scholarship
In January
1999, the John Stewart Fine Arts Memorial Scholarship was established
at Eastfield College in memory of Dr. John Stewart. He retired as Dean
of Arts and Letters at Eastfield College. John Stewart's greatest joy
came when he was able to wittness a student's discovery of the full life
through the unique experiences found in the arts. He believed not only
in the beauties and disciplines of the arts; but was convinced that we
become better persons by our participation in and understanding of theater,
painting, dance, and/or music. Amount

Eligibility
Criteria
Applicant
must demonstrate artistic merit and enroll in a minimum of 12 credit
hours per semester with a declared major in the fine or performing
arts (music, theater, or studio arts such as painting, drawing, ceramics,
or sculpture). Preference will be given to music students.

Applicants
must submit the following to the Financial Aid Office at Eastfield
College:

Foundation scholarship application form
- One-page
typed essay detailing why he or she deserves this scholarship
-- should include a clear statement of artistic goals, academic
goals, and career plans
- One
letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the field of
music, theatre, fine arts, or studio arts.
Selection
Process
- Phase
I - Financial Aid Office forwards applications of all candidates
to the John Stewart Scholarship Committee. The committee will always
be composed of two representatives from the Eastfield music program,
one from the theater program, and one from the fine arts/studio
arts program.
- Phase
II - The John Stewart Scholarship Committee selects recipients
based on character, artistic merit/talent, scholastic achievement,
and dedication.
