Peter Maaske Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Peter Maaske, an electronics teacher at South Garland High School for 15 years and at Eastfield College for many years.

The scholarship was established by Peter’s family to honor his legacy in teaching electronics and making a difference in the lives of his students. Peter was a creative man of many interests who loved his students, loved teaching, and loved the natural world and animals.

His goal was making a difference in the lives of students and in the conditions of our world.The goal of this scholarship is to empower future generations to use electronics to improve the world.

Eligibility Criteria
Recipient(s) must graduate from South Garland High School with at least a 2.5 cumulative G.P.A. or have demonstrated improvement. Also must have taken electronics courses and plan to pursue the study of electronics at Eastfield.

Application Process
Fill out the standard DCCCD application and submit, along with a transcript and a statement about your goals, especially how you could use electronics to improve life for people/animals. Include a list of any community activities you have done. Submit to your electronics teacher by April 9th.

Selection Process
Recipient will be chosen of a committee made up of Dr. Chuck Dale from Eastfield; Amber Miller, the South Garland electronics teacher; three teachers and/or counselors who knew Peter Maaske; and Ruth Maaske.
Renewal for spring semester will be decided by a committee at Eastfield chosen and headed by Dr. Dale.

Recipient Requirements

  • Want to improve the world in some way. Specifically, how would you improve the natural world or the life of people and/or animals?
  • Pursue a certificate or associates degree in an electronics field at Eastfield College

Deadline

  • For application: June 1st to Financial Aid Office
  • Finalist applications to Foundation: June 5th
  • Notification to students: No later than: August 1st
