James Franz Memorial Scholarship

Family, friends and faculty created a scholarship in Memory Of James Franz who was killed in a motorcycle accident. James was an outstanding Paralegal student at El Centro Community College. He was also an active member of the cooperative education program and the Paralegal student at El Centro College. This scholarship will be awarded to students who are paralegal majors and have a financial need.

Amount of Award $300 per Spring semester (full tuition)
 
Number of Awards Per Year One per academic year (Spring only).
 
Designated College El Centro College only
 
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be a member of the Paralegal Student Associations and enrolled in Cooperative Education Program at El Centro College. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or better and be enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours) in an Associate of Applied Science degree program with a major in Paralegal.
 

Application Process

Applicants must submit the following to the El Centro College Financial Aid Office:

  • Complete DCCCD Foundation Scholarship Application;
  • Typed essay of 500 words or less explaining why he or she deserves this scholarship, should include a clear statement of academic goals, career plans and financial need;
  • Letter of recommendation from mentor or instructor.
     
Selection Process

Phase I - Recipients are selected by Paralegal faculty member(s)/Paralegal Club at El Centro College, chosen on the basis of the above criteria.

Phase II - Financial Aid Office forwards application of top student (1) to the Foundation Office.
 

Recipient Requirements Recipients must enroll in and successfully complete 12 credit hours or more for the Spring semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA or better. Recipients are also expected to become a Paralegal Club member and enroll in cooperative Education. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss of their scholarship benefits. Recipients of this scholarship must write a letter of thanks to the family of James Franz.
