Dallas Mortgage Bankers Association Scholarship
Several members of the Dallas Mortgage Bankers Association contributed
money to establish a scholarship fund for North Lake College.
This fund is used to provide scholarships
for mortgage banking students attending North Lake College.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES WILL RECEIVE CONSIDERATION WITHOUT REGARD TO RACE,
RELIGION, COLOR, AGE, NATIONAL ORIGIN, LAWFUL POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS,
MARITAL STATUS, OR OTHER NON-DISQUALIFYING PHYSICAL, OR MENTAL HANDICAP.
Eligibility
Criteria
Applicants must comply with the following:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Provide proof of admission or eligibility for admission to an accredited Educational Institution of the United States.
- Applicants must complete an application form, submit two letters of recommendation (from faculty, counselor, employer, high school administrator, minister, etc.), and a personally written letter stating the purpose of the application and the expected benefits such education may produce for their career. - Students must complete all classes in which they are enrolled. The applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average or better in all mortgage banking classes, and at least a 2.75 grade point average in all other college classes taken or used toward their Mortgage Banking Associates Degree at North Lake College, 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75243 or for other core classes taken at any of the Dallas County Community College District campuses.
- This scholarship will be available for a student willing to begin the Mortgage Banking Applied Science Associates Degree program in the Summer or Fall of 2005.
- Only those students who are not currently receiving any other financial aid for tuition or books will be eligible for this scholarship.
- The applicant must file a Mortgage Banking Degree Plan at North Lake College upon acceptance of this scholarship. A change of major will void further payments under this scholarship and unused funds will be funds will transferred to Texas Mortgage Bankers Association Scholarship program at North Lake College and be made available to other students under that program.
- A cap on each scholarship is $625.00 per Spring or Fall semester if the student is taking at least 12 credit hours of work or $312.50 per Summer session if taking at least 6 credit hours in either or both Summer sessions. The maximum amount of the scholarship available is $2,500 allocated as listed in the first sentence of item 6 until fully used. Scholarship funds must be used to pay for tuition or books at North Lake College or given to the student after evidence of payment of the same if for courses that have been taken elsewhere in the Dallas County Community College District.
- Selection of scholarship recipient will be made by North Lake College mortgage banking faculty with consultation from the financial aid office.
- Scholarship applications are to be returned to the Financial Aid Office Room A-419 at North Lake College.
- Applicants must take and complete at least two required or elective mortgage banking courses per semester in the Spring and Fall or the scholarship funding will lapse and the funds will be made available to other students under the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association Scholarship program at North Lake College.
- The applicant/student authorizes release to the Dallas Mortgage
Bankers Association and North Lake College of information on grades
and course completion, and authorized the Dallas Mortgage Bankers
Association to publicize the fact of the scholarship, if awarded.
Selection
Criteria
Selection will be based on the following factors listed in order of importance:
- Geographic area – A resident of the North Texas Region (Member counties of North Texas Council of Governments).
- Academic Achievement/Grade-point.
- Demonstrated leadership skills (Extra Curricular Activities such as, Community service activities, student Government, Athletics, Band, Scouting, etc.).
- References: Expression of potential, probability and commitment to graduation, examples of or indication of individual initiative, etc.
- Applicant’s personal narrative expression of interest in higher education and its relationship to home ownership and the mortgage banking industry and its importance to the Nation.
- Personal
interview of the candidates. (Optional consideration at the discretion
of the Mortgage Banking faculty and Financial Aid Office at North
Lake College.
