The DCCCD Foundation was delighted to announce Don and Ruth Buchholz's $1 million contribution to the Rising Star program. The significant gift is the culmination of a long history of service to the community college district and its foundation. Mr. Buchholz served on the DCCCD Board of Trustees from 1978 to 1997 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the DCCCD Foundation. Mr. Buchholz was director of Garland Memorial Hospital from 1981 to 1985 and a trustee of the Garland Memorial Hospital Foundation from 1981 to 1994. He was a member of the board of the Alliance of Higher Education in 1993. Ruth Buchholz is the president of the Garland Landmark Society and has been recognized by the Garland Chamber of Commerce for her contributions to the community. "Don believed in Rising Star from the beginning but challenged us to produce results," DCCCD Chancellor Bill Wenrich said. "We went over the results of our pilot phase with him, and he donated the million dollars twenty minutes into our report! He's a true, long-time friend of the Dallas County Community Colleges." Mr. Buchholz co-founded Southwest Securities Group Inc. in 1972. Since founding the firm, Mr. Buchholz has served as partner, director, and chief executive officer. He is currently Southwest Securities' board chair. July, 2001 |
