Workforce Diversity Committee
Overview | Meetings | Members
The Workforce Diversity committee formed three subcommittees to address workforce diversity issues:
- The Joint Recruitment subcommittee developed the following strategies:
- Establish a formal exchange of job posting information
- Establish internet links to other agency web sites
- Develop and host an annual joint job fair
- Develop a plan to bring recruitment personnel together for a formal interchange of information, strategies and practices
- The Mentoring and Training subcommittee researched the following opportunities to be linked with organization success and recruitment goals:
- Mentoring Program: At risk students identified to be mentored by adults. Develop "buddy" relationship with mentor, involving one-on-one meetings. Companies can specify specific areas for mentorship (i.e. magnet schools).
- Executive Assistant Program: High school seniors available for semester-long internships. Serves as leadership development program.
- Speakers Bureau: Volunteer opportunities for speaking engagements to high school junior and senior students.
- Career Fairs: Usually held in the fall of the year, for high school seniors. Mostly private sector organizations, but public sector organizations could provide more visibility (possibly as a combined recruitment force)
- Career Classes: Joint effort among public sector organizations to gain an audience with students who move from high school directly into the workforce, an area where most agencies in the Alliance have readily available jobs.
- DCCCD Part-time instructors: Public sector employees taking part-time faculty positions could put organizations into direct contact with potential employment candidates.
- Workforce Diversity Planning and Utilization will make the following recommendation to the CEO Roundtable:
- Use of a common consultant to perform workforce availability and disparity studies to ensure consistent data collection and reporting for all Alliance members.
