Core 2009

The Core 2009 Committee (PDF - 61KB) has been at work since September 2007, meeting weekly, conducting research, listening to faculty, staff and students, and discussing what students need to know and be able to do in the upcoming decade.

The committee’s charges include the release of the First Draft of Core 2009 Curriculum Recommendations to the DCCCD community prior to making final recommendations to the VP Council in November. A timeline for review and revisions, monthly summaries of the committee’s work and forum data are posted on this Web page.

To facilitate your review of the draft, please examine the four-page Annotated Core 2009 First Draft. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board component area requirements and codes are written in this document. You will also find useful information in the Frequently Asked Questions, Course Comparisons By Component Area and Learning Features of the Core. After you've had an opportunity to review these documents, the committee would like to receive your comments. Please post questions and comments until September 24, 2008 on the Draft Report Feedback Form to the right.

The committee will consider all feedback when making revisions to the First Draft. A Revised Draft of Core 2009 Recommendations will be released on October 13. Forums will be held at Eastfield College on October 29 and Mountain View College on October 30 to discuss changes to the First Draft and new insights related to these changes. The committee will present Final Recommendations for the Core 2009 Curriculum and all research to the VP Council at their November meeting.

Thank you for your commitment to student success and your support of the work of the Core 2009 committee. Your continued participation in the process is vital.
