The Paralegal program is designed to teach you to work as a paralegal to attorneys. It also can help you decide if a law career is right for you. Learn how to handle routine assignments for attorneys, with opportunities for advancement in many areas. El Centro's is one of only a handful of paralegal programs in the state approved by the American Bar Association.

El Centro's program is not only widely respected but is also an incredible bargain. Its setting in downtown Dallas provides convenient access to the Records Building, George Allen Civil Courthouse, Frank Crowley Criminal Courthouse and Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse. A large number of law firms are located downtown.

Career Opportunities

Paralegals, or legal assistants, typically work in law firms, corporations and government agencies. A Paralegal associate degree can land you an immediate job. Or, it can serve as the base for other law-related careers.

Why is This a Good Career Bet?

Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas’s targeted occupations lists paralegal as a high-growth area this year, with nearly 4,000 job openings projected across the metroplex at an average of $28.72 per hour. 

America’s Career Infonet projects job growth increase of 30 percent for paralegals over the next decade. High job increase is defined as annual growth over 10 percent. 

For jobs requiring at least an associate degree, paralegal is ranked fourth among America’s Career Infonet’s top 36 careers with the most job openings and among its fastest-growing occupations through 2022.

The catalog provides detailed information about the courses required for the catalog provides detailed information about the courses required for the Paralegal Associate in Applied Sciences Degree. This degree can be completed in two years by a full-time student.

The program does not qualify a graduate to take a state Bar Exam, represent clients in court, give legal advice or provide independent legal services.
