Think about working in CSI, crime scene investigation!
This course emphasizes both classical and molecular genetics. You will explore the sequence of a variable fragment form of mitochondria that can reveal the origin of your ancestors. This involves using the same polymerase chain reactions used in crime and major research labs; then you will use an automated sequencer to show and help analyze your results.
INSTRUCTOR: Professor Andrea Bailey, who holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics from the University of North Texas, is a research scientist. Her previous research in immunology and chemotherapy includes work at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and in cloning and DNA sequencing at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
