How To Enroll at a College of DCCCD

 

If you have earned credits from another college or university, you'll need to follow the steps below to register for credit courses at a college of DCCCD.

Please note that the application and transfer process is the same for everyone, whether you want to take one course to transfer back to your home university, take a credit class for your own enrichment or earn a certificate or degree. There are a couple of reasons why this is essential:

  • Because federal and state laws require us to follow certain steps before we can admit you or evaluate your eligibility for financial aid.

  • Because we need your official transcripts to determine which course prerequisites you have already met. For instance, if your transcript shows you have taken the equivalent of English 1301 and 1302, you will be able to register for a sophomore-level English course at a college of DCCCD.

What steps do I need to follow to enroll in credit courses?

  1. Request official transcripts from all colleges or universities you have previously attended. Have them mailed to the college of DCCCD you want to attend. (Transcripts must be no older than three years from the date they were printed.) Many courses have prerequisites that must be met before registering. As a result, students who have not submitted transcripts may not be able to register for all desired classes.

  2. Before your official transcripts arrive, complete an application for admission and a conditional admissions form promising that you will provide official transcripts. If you have "student copies" of your transcripts or grade reports, bring them with you when you visit our offices so our academic advisors can use them to assist you.     Once we receive your official transcripts, we'll evaluate them. Before the end of your first semester, we'll let you know how many credits will transfer. (The notification process varies by college; you may be notified by email from the eConnect system, or your notification may be mailed to you.)

  3. Unless you meet certain exemptions, you'll need to submit TSI assessment test scores from the last college you attended or complete assessment testing. An academic advisor will determine if you are required to take assessment testing.

  4. Find the courses you want to take. You can register for classes with the help of an academic advisor, or you may be eligible for self-registration. (Your academic advisement report will have a statement at the top indicating if you are eligible.)

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to register for a course there may be several reasons, such as:

  • Your transcripts or test scores were not received.
  • The minimum grade requirement was not met on your prerequisite(s).
