Tickets $5 to Hear Talk About Challenge to Faith
Hear a noted thinker on religion, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, speak about the challenge to faith. 
His lecture is Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. It is titled “To Heal a Fractured World: The Challenge to Faith in the 21st Century.” The talk is at Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St. in downtown Dallas.

Eastfield, Cedar Valley Athletes Are All-Americans
Congratulations to two men’s basketball players. They were named to Division III All-American teams by the National Junior College Athletic Association:
·         Andrew Maxie of Eastfield College has been named to the 1st team
·         Benquan Petty of Cedar Valley College was named to the 3rd team
Brookhaven Saxophonists Perform at National Conference
The Brookhaven College Saxophone Studio combined forces with the Texas Woman’s University Saxophone Studio to perform at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial National Conference. The conference was held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, March 20-23. Three Brookhaven College students, Grace Chen, David Janes and Eduardo Garcia, performed. 
Mountain View Students Are Nominees for Coca-Cola Scholarship
Mountain View College students Taylor Souryachak and Eric Torbellin have been selected as nominees for the All-USA and the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team scholarship programs. Applications were scored based on grade point average, participation in honors programs, honors and recognitions received, service to their college and community, and two essays regarding their academic achievements and how they employed their leadership skills.
Eastfield Jazz Musician Is a Rising Star
Congratulations to Eastfield College music student Kwinton Gray, who has been selected by the Dallas Jazz Piano Society to perform at the Rising Stars concert April 10 at the Sammons Center for the Arts in Dallas.
Two Mountain View Students Going to Prestigious Programs
Congratulations to Mountain View’s Jereamy Riggs. He was recently selected to intern this summer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he will work on inorganic scintillators. The project will focus on the discovery of new materials that can be used for the detection of ionizing radiation. Also, Mario Olivares has been selected to participate in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program funded by the National Science Foundation that will take place at Texas A&M University-Commerce this summer.
Five Richland Photo Students Are Finalists in Magazine Contest
Richland College photography students Mary Brown, April Davison, David Featherstone, Kristel Friessen and Aaron Mireles have been selected as finalists in the Photographer’s Forum magazine’s Annual International College Photography Contest. Their photos were selected from more than 16,000 photographs submitted by college and university photography students from across the nation; the selected photos will be featured in a photographic publication in June.
Banquet Honors Cedar Valley Student Leader of Year
Cedar Valley College Student Leader of the Year Bernadette Washington was honored at the Amidon/Beauchamp Memorial Awards Banquet on March 21. Washington is involved in the Student Leadership Institute, Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa and Student Ambassadors.
Mountain View Student is Nominated to Military Academies
Brandi Ervin, a student at Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School at Mountain View College, has been nominated by U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey to attend the U.S. military academies for the class of 2018. The military academies are the U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Col.); U.S. Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.); U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.); and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.). The nomination does not guarantee appointment; the final decision is left to the academies.
Eastfield Student Is Amidon/Beauchamp Award Winner
Maria Yolisma Garcia is Eastfield College’s DCCCD Amidon/Beauchamp Memorial Award winner. She was honored at the annual banquet March 21. She is president of the Communications Club, staff writer for The Et Cetera and serves as the current immigration affairs chair for the North Texas Dream Team.
Richland PTK Members Honored at Regional Conference
Officers of the Richland College Alpha Alpha Xi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Vinosha Silvaraman, Katy Bauer and Adolfo Hernandez, and members Dave Edlund, Gabriela Estrada, Tam Nguyen, Nini Sterling and Joshua Valdez recently attended the Texas Regional Phi Theta Kappa Conference in Houston. Nguyen received a Five Star Competitive Edge completion pin and a Distinguished Chapter Member medallion; Silvaraman received a Five Star Competitive Edge completion pin; and Estrada received a Texas Hall of Honor certificate.
