Faculty Counselor
Faculty Counselor (Position No. 030806030)
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience and education. / 11 Months
A full-time position in the Advising/Counseling Department (M-F, one evening per week and some weekends).  This position is an eleven month Faculty Counselor position. The person in the position teaches Human Development courses, develops curriculum, advises students, provides case management and maintains electronic student records; other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for counseling, instructional activities, educational advisement, career counseling, division liaison activities.
  • Responsible for the provision of counseling services for students, including personal counseling, crisis intervention, assessment and referral, as well as faculty consultations.
  • The faculty counselor assists with developing and implementing college-wide counseling and student success programs.
  • Provides personal and career counseling, educational advising and case management services to currently enrolled students.
  • Provide crisis counseling when necessary.
  • Teach and develop curriculum in Human Development courses.
  • Consult with faculty regarding student concerns.
  • Publicize counseling services.
  • Provide programs for specialized needs individually or in groups.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on appropriate classroom and work shop presentations.
  • Maintain legal and ethical standards as regulated by state licensure and DCCCD.
  • Pursue professional development through seminars and other appropriate activities to enhance counseling services.
  • Maintain current referral resources.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrate ability to work within a collegial environment along with faculty, administrators and staff.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work or an equivalent field at a regionally accredited four year college or university plus two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling for a caseload of clients.

  • A minimum of 18 graduate hours in Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work or other related behavioral sciences required.

  • Licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) from a state or national certifying association a plus.

  • Exceptional communication, oral and written skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skill and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
