When should I apply?

Each year’s class size is limited, so apply early during the spring semester of your senior year in high school. We accept applications beginning Jan. 1 and ending June 15 every year.

What does the Rising Star Program cover?

Rising Star provides qualified high school graduates with academic support services and up to $4,000 for tuition and books over a period of up to three years, if you have established a financial need.
  
You have 12 months after the date of your graduation from high school to enter the Rising Star Program.

Can I transfer the scholarship to another school?

No, the Rising Star Program scholarship is only available for use within the seven colleges of the Dallas County Community College District. The program was established to provide students a means to earn an associate degree or certificate or complete the Core Curriculum. After completion, Rising Star Program students may qualify for our transfer scholarships.

Is this scholarship the same as the Pell Grant?  

The Rising Star Program is referred to as the “funding of last resort.” Any other scholarships and grants would be used first; then Rising Star would kick in as secondary funding.
