Mandatory Loan Counseling

Pre-loan Counseling

All DCCCD colleges require student loan borrowers to complete a pre-loan counseling session once each award year. Federal regulations require that every first-time borrower complete pre-loan counseling before he or she can receive the first loan disbursement. Contact the Financial Aid Office for a schedule of counseling session dates, times and locations.

Loan applications will not be certified until the Financial Aid Office receives confirmation that you have completed the pre-loan session.

Loan Exit Counseling

Borrowers must complete a loan exit session the semester before transferring or leaving the college that certified the student’s loans. You may complete the exit session online at the Mapping Your Future Web site. Federal regulations require the college to ensure that each borrower has been provided information about repayment benefits and obligations. Therefore, the college may withhold grades, transcripts, diplomas and other academic records until the exit counseling has been completed.

Graduating student borrowers are strongly encouraged to complete this counseling requirement during the final half of the last semester to avoid any delays in getting transcripts released for work or for transfer to a university.
