College can be fun, but it can also be very difficult to juggle school, work, family and friends.

Like most people, you probably know ways to cope with stress. But when you become a DCCCD student, if you start feeling overwhelmed or anxious, our college counselors can help you find practical solutions to personal and/or academic problems.

What Is Counseling?

The Dallas County Community College District recognizes that you're a whole person – not just a student. Your academic success depends on your personal development and emotional health.

A professional counselor can help you identify, understand and develop skills to resolve your educational, career and personal issues. In other words, a counselor won't solve your problems for you; he or she will assist you in learning how to find your own pathway to success in college and in the workplace.

DCCCD counselors are highly qualified specialists with master's or doctoral degrees. They offer crisis intervention; brief, solution-focused counseling; and referrals to other agencies or services. They can provide educational and career guidance as well as individual and group personal/social counseling.

Services We Offer

All Dallas County Community Colleges provide free counseling and guidance services to credit and noncredit students.

  • When: On most campuses, counseling faculty or other professional counselors are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Where: Some counselors' offices are located in instructional divisions; others can be found in Advising and Counseling Centers.

For more information, contact counseling services at the college you plan to attend.

Ombuds Offices

Some colleges have Ombuds Offices that students and staff can visit if they have concerns related to college policies and procedures, services or learning environments.
