Title: Grade Inflation Management Through Adjunct Faculty Development

Abstract: Grade inflation is a topic of interest to many career educators.  The use and performance of adjunct instructors is playing an increasingly critical role in the nature of grading in higher education.  Many courses are now taught with extensive reliance on part-time instructors and the activities of these instructors are consequently having an effect on grading that is disproportionate to their training on grading.  This session will examine the issue of grade inflation and discuss methods of limiting it through faculty development for adjunct instructors.

Abstract: Presenters from the District's Colleges will discuss the opportunities and challenges of adopting the Quality Matters project, an inter-institutional continuous improvement model for ensuring the quality of online courses. Multiple institutional perspectives will be represented highlighting a range of implementation issues from faculty training and buy-in to course development and establishing a culture of commitment to quality.

Title: Your TRS Benefits Now and in the Future

Abstract: This session will include an overview of TRS benefits.  General information will be provided on retirement, disability, death and survivor benefits.  It will also include recent changes in the law that went into effect on September 1, 2005.  In addition, you will be provided with various ways to contact TRS when you need to.  There will be a question and answer period at the close of the session.

Title: Between Five Percent and Fifty

Abstract: Texas has become a minority-majority state, but the population of Asian Americans (APA) in North Texas remains small—less than five percent.  Globally however, Asians constitute over 50% of the world’s population.  As "our world flattens", Asia now seems to be right next door.  But the closer proximity has not fostered closeness.  Although we find ourselves communicating with Asians on a daily basis, some of their behaviors and ours are misunderstood--even offensive.   In this interactive workshop, you will learn certain communication codes that are unique to your APA colleagues/students, and acquire a better understanding of their cultures and values.

Abstract: The American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC), Dallas Chapter will facilitate a panel discussion lead by women who are DCCCD campus presidents. Along with sharing their experiences in the area of personal and professional development and their strategies for leadership development in the DCCCD, these women presidents will challenge session attendees to examine their own professional development plan as it relates to employee success in "Shaping a Culture:  Journey of Discovery."  This session is open to anyone interested in finding out more about the influence of leadership and its impact on employee success.

Title: Fun Mixers (1 credit LPC and MFT Counseling)

Abstract: How to do fun mixers! Joel Jessen, Ombudsman and Human Development Professor will present a how to experience for our students as we:   1. Have fun learning about our students.  2.  Allow our students to learn about each other in a classroom situation.  3.  Create synergy and show how to build positive energy in class.  (Wake everyone up for those early morning or late night classes!) This will be a one hour ethics credit for LPC and MFT counseling certification.
