The Learning Exchange Networks (LENs) Modules and workshops are teaching and learning materials developed at Humber College (Toronto, Ontario) by teachers for teachers. In a project with the League for Innovation in the Community College, faculty and staff from the Dallas County Community College District and Johnson County Community College (Overland, Kansas) collaborated with faculty from Humber College to revise the LENs materials for a wider audience.
The materials consist of seven modules which address a variety of topics of interest to faculty. Seven modules are address a range of topics:
Module 1 Creating A Positive Learning Environment
Module 2 Developing Learning Outcomes and Competencies
Module 3 Selecting Teaching and Learning Strategies
Module 4 Enhancing Teaching and Learning Using Educational Technology
Module 5 Classroom Assessment: Formative Strategies
Module 6 Classroom Assessment: Summative Strategies
The modules, composed of three to five units each, include general learning outcomes and specific competencies, in-depth discussion, self-tests, and opportunities for the reader to reflect on individual professional practices. Although the modules serve well as stand-alone lessons, each is designed to be read and then followed by a workshop or workshops for which extensive activities and additional materials have been developed. LENs
Modules support the learning of the DCCCD Visions of Excellence 4th Friday sessions.
The LENs Modules are the property of the League for Innovation in Community Colleges. Because a significant cross-section of faculty of the Dallas County Community College District participated in focus groups and offered feedback critical to the revision of the LENs Modules, the materials are available for use by DCCCD faculty at no charge. Materials may be used in the DCCCD classroom if sources are properly cited. Go to www.league.org and click on iStream. DCCCD faculty and staff use their DCCCD.edu email addresses to acquire login access to iStream.
