What is the Student Services Institute?
The Student Services institute is a series of courses focusing on topics relating to student services. It is designed to train employees that serve students in the finer points of helping with student needs.
The classes are organized into four general topic areas:

Compliance — This group of classes is designed to teach employees how to efficiently perform job assignments in alignment with the rules, regulations and intent of the District. Included are classes in business office processes, general campus and HR operational guidelines, and performance of mandated processes with regulations such as FERPA.

Relationship Building — This area of classes focuses on creating and maintaining a productive and hospitable work environment. Classes include team building, conflict resolution, cultural competence, emotional intelligence and time management.

Communication — This includes the whole range of interpersonal communication including verbal, written, and behavioral. Also included is customer service, critical thinking, mentoring/coaching and understanding student development.

Leadership — This group of workshops focuses on achieving a higher purpose and meaning within the area of Student Development in order to support student success. |
Who should attend?
This institute is open to all district employees, and supervisor approval is required. Some classes/workshops are designed for two levels of learners.
What are the benefits for me?
Through this curriculum, student development personnel and those who aspire to become student development professionals have the opportunity to gain and maintain the competence and professionalism that is critical to student success.
A Certificate of Mastery will be offered to those who successfully complete all requirements within three program years.

When are classes held?
The Student Services institute is one year in lenght and is comprised of 16 classes or workshops covering 60 hours of classroom instruction.
Classes and workshops are offered once per quarter:
- Compliance — Early Spring (2 days)
- Relationship Building — Fall (2 days)
- Communication — Summer (2 days)
- Leadership — Winter (2 days)

Who will do the training?
All instructors are excellent facilitators who have extensive experience in the subject area. They are:
- Internal experts among the DCCCD faculty and staff
- OrgDev staff that have the appropriate certification as trainers
- Outside consultants and facilitators
