Purpose:
  • Not to exceed three (3) days at any one time for immediate family members – this benefit can be used multiple times during a benefit year (defined as September through August.) It is not intended to be used for multiple times during the same episode of bereavement.
  • Bereavement – leave days may be delayed to coincide with travel related to the funeral services.
  • Critical illness leave and bereavement episodes must be separated by at least one day of employee’s work in order to be awarded at multiples of three (3) days.
  • Bereavement leave has been approved to attend the funeral or service of a colleague or family member of a colleague. This special application requires advance supervisory approval.
Definitions:

"Immediate family" means spouse, child, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, sister, brother, grandchild, grandparents of the employee or other person who occupies a position of similar significance in the family of the employee.
