ACADEMIC YEAR
The period of college operations encompassing the fall and Spring semesters
ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR
A person designated as such by the Board and rendering instructional service outside the normal employment relationship. (The Chancellor shall establish guidelines for the appointment of the adjunct instructors.)
ADMINISTRATOR
Any person customarily and regularly engaged in the management of defined operating units of the District which deliver educational programs of provide support thereto, such management requiring the exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
ALTERNATIVE CONTRACT
Faculty contracts can be written for a time period that is not within the academic for 10, 10 and one half or 11 months.
CATASTROPHIC SICK LEAVE POOL
Catastrophic Sick leave is for a severe illness or injury (excludes normal pregnancy.) You must be out for 20 calendar days or more from the beginning date of the reported illness or injury and have lost all compensation and/or all paid leave.
COLLEGE YEAR
The period of college operations commencing on or about September 1 and including the immediately following fall and spring semesters and summer sessions.
CONTRACTUAL
As to personnel, those persons having a formal employment contract with the District which prescribes a fixed term, compensation and duties. All administrators, faculty and special program instructors are contra
EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES
For reasons not covered by other leave, an employee shall receive two days of extenuating circumstances leave without loss of pay per fiscal year.
FACULTY
Persons employed generally on an academic-year basis and engaged in the delivery of academic program. Faculty shall include instructors, counselors, resource consultants and librarians, either full-time or part-time, but shall not include special program instructors.
FISCAL YEAR
The twelve (12) month period beginning on September 1 and ending on August 31 of the next succeeding year.
FULL-TIME
As to non-contractual personnel, employment in a job, the duties of which require not less than thirty seven and a half (37.5) hours of normally scheduled work per week. As to contractual personnel, employment on a contract requirement the performance of 50% more of a full workload (a minimum of 30 hours a week).
LIMITED FULL-TIME
As to non-contractual personnel, those persons whose normally scheduled workweek is less than 30 hours per week but is 50% or more of the applicable workweek.
MEDICARE (FICA)
1.45% of salary deducted up to a maximum annual salary of $87,400. The District contributes an equal amount.Provides Medicare Part A (Hospitalization) coverage under the federal plan.
PART-TIME EMPLOYEE
As to non-contractual personnel, employment in a job, the duties of which require less than 50% of the applicable workweek. As to contractual personnel, employment requiring the performance of less than 50% of a full workload.
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT STAFF
As to personnel, those persons who are employees of the District, other than contractual personnel -- i.e., whose employment relationship with the District is not evidenced by formal employment contract and who serve at will. This term shall refer generally to those persons holding positions in the general classified and physical plant classified personnel systems of the District.
TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE
As to personnel, employment in a job of limited duration and having a completion date which generally can be projected at the time of employment.
VISITING SCHOLAR
The Visiting Faculty or Administrator role is a temporary appointment, recommended for up to two full academic years, by the location President.
