Purpose:As of June 15, 2001, TRS members who retired before January 1, 2001, can return to full-time employment without restrictions.

Definitions:This means that a TRS Retiree, who retired from service before January 1, 2001, can return to work on a full-time basis and not lose their monthly TRS annuity.
Procedures:TRS Retirees who meet the eligibility criteria may make application and be hired into full-time benefits eligible positions. The location human resources office must verify the applicant's retirement date before hiring full-time.

The full-time working retiree is entitled to benefits with the exception of:

  • Employees Retirement System Group Insurance Coverage
  • Retirement deduction to TRS or any other retirement plan

The retiree will remain a retiree and retiree benefits will continue to be administered by TRS and/or ERS.
