Definitions:Technical work experience includes a variety of categories defined by the Coordinating Board including:

  • Cooperative education, which combines required lecture/seminar with a paid or nonpaid student work experience. (Co-op students working at a DCCCD location will work 20 hours per week and are considered part-time employees.)

  • Practicum, which combines an optional lecture/seminar with an advanced student work experience, which may be paid or unpaid.

  • Internship, which combines an optional lecture/seminar with an advanced student work experience, which may be paid or unpaid.

  • Clinical experience, which combines lecture, detailed training and work-based experience at a clinical site.
Procedures:

Workload: Instructor coordinators in cooperative education, practicums and internships are paid according to the following guidelines.

a. Seminar: Seminars are required in cooperative education and optional in practicums and internships. Compensation for instructor coordinators who teach seminars is $41.03 per contact hour as follows:

c. Clinical Work Experience: Coordination is compensated based on regular lecture/lab grid for credit instruction or the guidelines specifically adopted for nursing and health professions.

Note: DCCCD does not receive reimbursement from the state if students are added past the certification date. We will not pay additional if the enrollment increases after certification date. The rate of pay remains the same whether enrollment increases or decreases unless it drops to zero. When enrollment drops to zero, then payment ceases.
