District Human Resources is responsible for summarizing the monthly changes in the Consumer Price Index, based on national, urban data. This summary is used as a basis for consideration of cost-of-living adjustments (COLA). The period of annual comparison will be from February to February of each year.
*In January 1988, the CPI base was changed to 100.0.
Worksheet Qualification: The data for the period from August 1984 through June 1987 was researched from material supplied by the vice chancellor of business affairs to the Faculty Council on Aug. 11, 1987. The numbers have been confirmed with Dallas Public Library records to reflect the category of Consumer Price Index - U.S. Urban Category.
This worksheet reflects a monthly summary of the CPI-U since 1982. Historically, the CPI-U.S.-U is compared from February of the current year back to February of the prior year. The percentage increase/decrease is then calculated as follows: current year CPI-U.S.-U less prior year CPI-U.S.-U divided by prior year CPI-U.S.-U.
