Definitions:
Employee Type Eligibility Benefit
Administrator Accrual begins on date of hire. Can request leave as accrued. 12 days/90 hours per fiscal year. Maximum of 66 days can be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
Faculty Accrual begins on date of hire. Can request leave as accrued. 10 days/60 hours per fiscal year.  Maximum of 66 days can be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
Professional Support Staff Accrual begins on date of hire. Can request leave as accrued. 1 day/7.5 (8.0) per month. Maximum of 66 days can be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
Professional Support Staff Limited Full-time Accrual begins on date of hire. Can request leave as accrued. 5 hours per month. Maximum of 330 hours can be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
Eligibility:Sick Leave will be prorated for administrators and faculty according to the contractual dates and will be credited at the beginning of the contract. Sick Leave will be prorated for Professional Support Staff according to the number of days worked in a month.

Employees do not accrue sick leave when out on Leave Without Pay. 
Procedures:Sick leave may be used only:

  1. For an employee illness.

  2. With prior approval from supervisor for medical or dental emergencies or appointments that can not be scheduled after hours.

  3. For maternity leave to the extent of accrued leave and at doctors certification.

  4. For illness of immediate family member, spouse, child, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, sister, brother or grandparent of the employee or other person who occupies a position of similar significance in the family of the employee.  An employee may not use more than 12 days of sick leave per year for this purpose.

  5. For appointments with the district-authorized employee and dependent assistance program provider.

Unused sick leave will be forfeit upon termination of employment with DCCCD. In the event an employee has relieved sick leave benefits in excess of days earned to date of termination, there will be a deduction from the employee's final payroll check.
