Leave and Vacation 
 
 
Employees of DCCCD are eligible for many different types of leave, and accrue leave at different rates. Find out what kinds of leave are available to employees and specifics about each type:

Bereavement
Bereavement leave can be used to attend funerals for immediate family and colleagues.
Birth of a Child
This type of leave allows employees time for the birth or adoption of their child.
Continuation of Benefits
An employee is offered continuation of benefits when they enter a leave without pay status with the exception of Family Medical Leave.
Critical Illness
Critical illness leave allows employees to care for an immediate family member during medical emergencies.
Developmental Leave
Developmental leave offers full-time employees an opportunity to travel, study or participate in other activities that improve their skills.
Family Medical Leave Act
FMLA allows an employee time off without pay and without loss of any employment benefits.

Faculty members may earn professional development or renewal leave.

Holidays
Full-time DCCCD employees have several paid holidays, including 6 days between Christmas and New Year's.

Jury Duty
Employees may be granted leave of absence without loss of pay when called for jury duty.
Leave and Benefit Integration

Mandatory Vacation
Any employee in a position of fiscal trust is required to take an annual vacation of at least five work days in duration.
Military Leave
An employee may be granted a leave of absence from their duties without loss of time, vacation days or salary to perform military service.
Return to Work
See the conditions under which a sick or injured employee may return to work.
Sabbaticals
This program allows faculty/administrators to take a leave of absence of up to one year to engage in a special project, study or travel.
Sick Leave
Employees accrue leave for an their own a dependent's illness, or doctor's appointments.
Vacation
Employees of DCCCD earn vacation time.
Extenuating Circumstances Leave
Personal business that cannot be transacted outside the employee’s normal workday.
Catastrophic Sick Leave Pool
The pool is a secondary source of paid sick leave available to full-time employees who have exhausted all other paid leave.
