TRIO Programs

About TRIO

Our nation has asserted a commitment to providing educational opportunities for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. In support of this commitment, Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America’s economic and social life. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are referred to as the TRIO Programs.

The Dallas County Community College District have TRIO Programs on the Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, North Lake, Mountain View and Richland College campuses. These programs help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.

TRIO and the Transfer Process

If you are eligible for and participate in your college's TRIO Program, the TRIO staff will provide you with services designed to help you successfully complete your associate degree, transfer and go on to complete your bachelor's degree. Although each college's TRIO Program is different, services offered may include:

  • tutoring services
  • academic counseling
  • personal counseling
  • transfer and career counseling
  • financial aid and scholarship information and assistance
  • workshops and cultural activities
  • field trips to area universities

Your TRIO advisor can also provide information on four-year colleges and universities that have TRIO Programs, so you can continue receiving assistance from a TRIO Program as you complete your bachelor's degree.
