Dallas County Community College District and Jones International University (sometimes “JIU”) agree to the following policies and conditions governing the transfer of credit earned in the associate degree programs at Dallas County Community College District into a baccalaureate program offered at Jones International University. For purposes of this transfer agreement, an associate degree is defined as a two-year degree program of 60 credits, divided between the core curriculum and electives.
The principles, policies and guidelines in this transfer agreement shall apply uniformly to all students attempting to transfer credit earned at Dallas County Community College District into Jones International University. This transfer agreement shall be published by each participating Dallas County Community College District, including publication to current and future students. All transfers of credit from associate degrees to JIU will be determined in accordance with this transfer agreement.
Section I: ADMISSIONS CRITERIA AND PROCEDURES
A. The admission standards of Jones International University, including the grade point average required for admission.
Students seeking admission to Jones International University must meet Jones International University’s admission standards and must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all college work attempted. All course work submitted for evaluation must be presented in an official transcript.
B. Treatment of associate degrees as admission criteria.
All AA, AS and AAT degrees awarded by Dallas County Community College District will transfer to Jones International University as a block of credit, meaning that all associate degree related courses will automatically transfer.
Students who have maintained a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and a 2.0 GPA in all transferable courses shall be fully considered for admission into the baccalaureate programs offered by Jones International University. If a student is offered admission, the student will enter with junior standing. Students who have not earned an associate degree will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
Note: Remedial/developmental or technical/vocational courses will not be included for transfer in this General Articulation Agreement from DCCCD colleges unless specified by individual colleges in a Program-to-Program Articulation Agreement.
C. Application procedures and deadlines.
The office of admissions at Jones International University has established application procedures and deadlines. A student should contact the office of admissions for details or consult the Jones International University catalog which is available online at http://www.jonesinternational.edu/.
Section II: TRANSFER OF CREDIT
A. Policies for accepting grades in transfer.
The letter grades on courses from the transferring institution that are accepted for transfer into a baccalaureate program will be treated in accordance with Jones International University's grade policies.
B. Treatment of advanced placement and national standardized test scores (i.e. DANTES, ECE, APP, CLEP) and other nontraditional methods of awarding credit.
- Courses that are developmental or remedial are not transferable toward a four year degree.
- Students who have earned scores on Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) tests offered in high school may be awarded college credit. College credit granted by a participating college of the Dallas County Community College District will be recorded on a student's transcript in accordance with such college’s grade policy, but in all cases will count toward graduation at Jones International University.
- Students may earn college/university credit by examination in the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) in general education subject areas in which they have demonstrated college level proficiency and by other nontraditional means. CLEP credit which is already transcripted by a participating college of the Dallas County Community College District is transferable, provided that the other transferability requirements are met.
C. Maximum number of hours accepted in transfer.
Jones International University will accept sixty (60) credit hours toward a student’s graduation requirements. Credits in excess of 60, up to a maximum of 90 credit hours, may be accepted for transfer and will be evaluated on an individual course basis. Dallas County Community College District graduates will be required to complete the difference between their transfer credit and 120 hours at Jones International University in order to complete their baccalaureate degree.
D. Residency and upper division course credit requirements.
In order to meet graduation requirements for an undergraduate degree, students must complete at least 30 of the required upper division credits (course number 300 or above) at Jones International University.
E. Treatment of the AA (Associate in Arts) and AS (Associate in Science) degree in awarding credit.
Students who have earned an associate degree from a DCCCD college will be credited with the total number of credit hours for all courses that were completed, provided that the total number of credits does not exceed Jones International University’s maximum number of hours accepted in transfer.
F. Maximum age of credit.
Jones International University will accept all credits earned within ten years of transfer. If a student earned credit hours that are required for graduation within ten years of transferring into an undergraduate degree program at Jones International University, these credit hours will apply to the completion of the student's graduation requirements. Courses earned in excess of ten years prior to such transfer will be evaluated on an individual basis.
G. Treatment of Dallas County Community College District core curriculum.
Dallas County Community College District students who completed the Dallas County Community College District core curriculum are considered to have satisfied Jones International University's lower division general education requirements. This condition applies to all Dallas County Community College District transfer students regardless of whether they completed a degree.
H. Accreditation requirements for transfer of credit.
The transfer credit described in this transfer agreement is conditioned upon the requirement that the transferring Dallas County Community College District maintains current accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Section III: DEGREE/PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Catalog that governs the transfer student's experience and expiration dates.
Students transferring into a baccalaureate program may follow the graduation requirements in effect at Jones International University specified in its catalog during the academic year the student is officially matriculated into the Dallas County Community College District (the original catalog), provided that:
- the student maintains continuous registration at the Dallas County Community College District;
- the student matriculates at Jones International University within one (1) year from the last registration date at Dallas County Community College District.
If the student does not meet all the conditions listed above, the student shall follow the current catalog policy of Jones International University in effect on the date of first registration.
Jones International University maintains a current, relevant curriculum. As a result, courses described in an older catalog may become unavailable. Jones International University will make substitutions for such courses, but will not increase the amount of total credits specified in the original catalog, nor require a student to retake credits already completed under this transfer agreement.
In the event that a degree program is discontinued, Jones International University will accept 60 credits into a new program under the same conditions. All curriculum changes or updates can be found at http://www.jonesinternational.edu/.
Section IV: APPEALS PROCESS
A student has the opportunity to appeal transfer problems through the published Jones International University appeals process. The college catalog of Jones International University describes the full appeals process.
This transfer agreement will remain in force until one party to this agreement notifies the other party in writing of its desire to terminate the agreement, in which case this transfer agreement shall be terminated with respect to such party and of no further force and effect thirty (30) days after receipt of such notice. In the event a participating Dallas County Community College District loses its accreditation status, this transfer agreement shall terminate immediately with respect to such non-accredited institution. If there are significant curriculum changes, the parties may mutually agree to terminate this agreement and enter into a new agreement. Any amendments to this transfer agreement must be in writing and signed by an authorized signatory of each party. This transfer agreement shall be effective upon execution by both parties hereto. Each party is free to publicize this relationship in a manner consistent with this agreement.
