Strayer University

PURPOSE

The articulation agreement is designed to coordinate transfer policies, enhance advising, and promote the acceptance of the programmatic transfer of courses/credits between Strayer University (SU) and Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD).

ELEMENTS OF THE AGREEMENT

A.  Acceptance and Application of Credits

The maximum number of transfer credits accepted from an institution granting a 2-year degree (AS, AAS, AA, etc.) will equal the minimum number of credits required to complete the specific degree program of that institution. Therefore all courses from an articulated school should be articulated into the bachelors program in their entirety.

Students from two-year institutions where we have articulation agreements will have their entire degree program transferred in, including “ C- and D” grades, allowing the student to complete their related degree program at Strayer University in two years for fulltime study. However, SU will accept only courses in which a grade of “C” or better is earned by students who have not completed the requirements for the associate degree at DCCCD.

Students completing an AA or AS at DCCCD will meet all lower division general education requirements at Strayer University.

For courses taught at the 300 or 400 levels at SU, students may be required to take alternative courses to earn upper division credit.

SU will evaluate courses/credits earned through Advanced Placement (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), or other testing programs. SU also will evaluate courses/credits earned at other institutions. Students seeking credit for these courses must provide the university with official transcripts for evaluation.

Prior Learning Activity and other life experiences credits already evaluated as part of the associates degree program will be brought in with the degree.

B.  Admissions Practices

SU will accept applications from students who wish to transfer from DCCCD into any related baccalaureate degree program at SU. Transferring DCCCD applicants must meet the same admissions criteria as other students applying for transfer to SU.

DCCCD students who graduate with an AA/AS or AAS degree, are applying to a related degree program at SU, and have a DCCCD curriculum GPA of at least 2.0 are guaranteed admission to SU. Once admitted, students are subject to all other policies and procedures, including residency requirement of SU, as outlined in the SU catalog. Students who have questions may consult a counselor and/or advisor at either institution for assistance.

DCCCD students, who have completed or will complete an AA/AS or AAS degree by the time they enroll in classes at SU, will be exempted from paying the SU application fee.

Students transferring from DCCCD to specific SU programs must meet the same admission criteria, as other native or transfer students applying to SU’s programs.

C.  Update/Report/Relationship

SU and DCCCD agree to review the agreement annually. DCCCD & SU will designate an individual to serve as liaison for the purposes of monitoring this agreement. Each institution will provide updated catalogs to the other immediately upon their availability. Upon request, SU agrees to provide DCCCD reports on enrolled DCCCD transfer students, their majors and academic performance to the extent permitted by law.

SU and DCCCD agree to assist each other in promoting this agreement appropriately in their respective promotional materials, events, Web sites, reports and through the sharing of mailing lists.

All notices to be given shall be delivered in writing as follows:

D.  Amendments and Term of Effect

The curriculum in effect at the time a student first enrolls at DCCCD will be honored by SU if the student completes an AA/AS or AAS degree and successfully transfers to SU within 7 years of that first enrollment at DCCCD. This agreement may be amended, as necessary, for specific program articulation without affecting the master agreement.

This master agreement will remain in effect until terminated by either party on ninety (90) days prior written notice. In the event that this agreement is terminated, the terms of the agreement contained herein will remain in effect for the maximum transitional period of two (2) years to accommodate students already enrolled under the agreement.
