Argosy University Articulation Agreement

  Dallas County Community College District
and
Argosy University
Articulation Agreement

I.  STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

Dallas County Community College District (hereafter referred to as DCCCD) and Argosy University/Dallas (hereafter referred to as AU/Dallas) enter into the following agreement designed to facilitate the transfer of students from lower-division to upper division study without credit loss, to promote program articulation and support their academic success in baccalaureate degree programs. The Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) consists of the following campuses: Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland.

II.  OBJECTIVES:

  1. To attract qualified students from DCCCD to AU/Dallas
  2. To ensure, through clear communication, the efficient and orderly movement of students from DCCCD to AU/Dallas while guaranteeing continuous advancement in learning
  3. To provide specific advisement for DCCCD students who intend to pursue professional study at AU/Dallas
  4. To allow for transfer of up to 90 credit hours and a seamless transition for DCCCD graduates to AU/Dallas
  5. To establish academic and administrative coordination between the institutions, and the exchange of evaluative information on the outcomes of the program, with the goal of continuous improvement

III.  TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

    A.  Institutional Relationship

  1. AU/Dallas and DCCCD will jointly develop Transfer Guides, Transfer Admission and Course Equivalency Guides, utilizing both AU/Dallas and DCCCD numbers for all majors offered at AU/Dallas. By creating these guides, AU/Dallas and DCCCD assure students that courses listed in these guides are freely transferable between AU/Dallas and DCCCD.
  2. AU/Dallas and DCCCD both agree to encourage qualified students to participate in the joint degree program through advisement and dissemination of information. AU/Dallas and DCCCD will collaborate in providing students with information and academic advising about this agreement, academic programs and requirements of AU/Dallas and the process of transferring to AU/Dallas. Both institutions agree to a timely exchange of information, especially as it pertains to curricular/degree changes which may influence academic advising and degree requirements.
  3. Each institution may carry out publication and marketing of this agreement. This can include, but is not limited to, printed material, Web sites and inclusion in admission material. Both institutions agree to promote the 2+2 program in their recruitment activities and literature and to refer prospective students, when appropriate, to the other's admissions office.
  4. AU/Dallas and DCCCD will consult with each other through appropriate channels prior to implementing major changes in policy or curricula that directly affect students transferring under the terms of this agreement, and keep each other informed of any other changes of policy or curricula that affect those students.
  5. Both institutions agree to facilitate and support consultation and collaboration between their faculties related to this agreement, general education, degree requirements and other academic matters.
  6. This agreement will be monitored on a yearly basis by contact between articulation coordinators and/or department chairpersons to update course equivalencies, transfer guides and transfer admission information to be used the subsequent academic year.

    B.  Student Requirements

    All Students
All students transferring to AU/Dallas from DCCCD must:

  1. be in good academic standing with DCCCD.
  2. have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
  3. have completed and been awarded the appropriate associate degree or have a minimum of 48 credit hours / maximum of 90 credit hours in transfer from DCCCD.
  4. have followed the appropriate application process in applying to AU/Dallas. AU/Dallas is an upper-level institution, serving the upper-level undergraduate student (junior and senior only), and graduate students (master's and doctoral levels).

They will abide by the policies and procedures and any revisions thereof that apply to all AU/Dallas students.
  6. furnish a final transcript with their degree posted or request that official transcripts from all postsecondary schools attended be sent directly from the Registrar's Office to the AU/Dallas Admissions Office for determination of admission eligibility.
  7. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

To guarantee a smooth transition between institutions, students are encouraged to work closely with advising offices at both DCCCD and AU/Dallas. Advising information and contacts are available at:

    A.A. & A.S. Degree Students

  1. The intent of this agreement is to encourage DCCCD students to complete the associate degree under the terms of the agreement prior to transfer to AU/Dallas. DCCCD students who successfully complete the terms of this agreement with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree, who apply in a timely manner and meet the current admission criteria, will be admitted to the B.A. degree program in Psychology upon application as matriculated students with junior status at AU/Dallas. All DCCCD credits will be accepted in transfer without evaluation on a course-by-course basis.
  2. AU/Dallas agrees to accept the general education embedded in the DCCCD Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees as meeting all the requirements of its Undergraduate University Core Curriculum. Note: Core-to-Core transfer satisfies all the requirements of the University Core Curriculum. Core-to-Core transfer does not alter the requirements of the student's major field of study or the requirements of the student's AU/Dallas degree. While that set of requirements may include courses that also meet Core requirements of AU/Dallas, they are not themselves core requirements.

    A.A.S. Degree Students

  1. DCCCD students who successfully complete the terms of this agreement with an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree, who apply in a timely manner and meet the current admission criteria, will be admitted to the B.A. degree program in Psychology at AU/Dallas.

Note: Students from Eastfield College and North Lake College will not be able to transfer their A.A.S. degree. However, all DCCCD students who take core courses within their A.A.S. degree, such core courses will be transferable.

  2. Students having an A.A.S. degree may have some credits not applicable to the B.A. degree program in Psychology at AU/Dallas. Satisfaction of degree requirements, including general education and the major, will be determined on a course-by-course basis by the Admissions Office at AU/Dallas.

    Non-Degree Seeking Students

  1. Transfer students will receive academic credit only for transferable college level courses completed with a grade of "C" or better.
  2. Transfer students are required to have at least 48 credit hours for admission to AU/Dallas. For students not completing an associate degree, transcripts will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis by the Admissions Office at AU/Dallas.
  3. The awarding or use of any nontraditional credit (e.g. CLEP, AP credit-by-exam, military service, etc.) must be approved by each degree granting institution.
  4. The student must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 for admission to AU/Dallas. Note: Applicants with less than a 2.0 GPA may be eligible for admission upon individual review. Requests for exceptions to the 2.0 GPA criteria should be initiated by the student and supported by a letter from a department head at DCCCD, an explanation of the student's relevant professional experience and the distribution of grades, e.g.; review of grades in major courses vs. non-major courses.

IV.  AGREEMENT OF CONTINUATION AND DISSOLUTION:

This agreement will be in effect as of the date of its signing, for students entering AU/Dallas on or after May 1, 2003. It will be reviewed annually by the appropriate parties at each institution and will be renewed automatically until superseded by a new agreement or formally terminated. Either institution may terminate this agreement at any time by written notice at least one year in advance of the effective date of termination. Should this agreement be terminated, it is understood that the termination will not apply to students already accepted to AU/Dallas under the terms of the agreement, but not yet enrolled in classes at AU/Dallas.

DCCCD and AU/Dallas understand that they shall act in an independent capacity in the performance of this agreement, and shall not be considered as employees, agents, affiliates or subsidiaries of each other. Neither AU/Dallas nor DCCCD have the right to bind or obligate one another in any manner inconsistent with or unrelated to this agreement. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
