"Enhancing Student Success Through Retention"

PURPOSE: This professional development workshop is designed to accomplish the following fundamental objectives and outcomes:
- Increase staffs awareness and understanding of the necessity of focusing on facilitating higher levels of student learning and success
- Facilitate much greater understanding of fundamental concepts, strategies and tactics that promote learning and success
- Explore in-depth “core competencies” (i.e. assessment, boundary spanning, collaboration, organizational learning and change, etc.) and “best practices” that are required to design and implement a comprehensive student success improvement program.
- Initiate a process to create much greater shared responsibility for educational quality and student success and produce draft action plans that staff can use to design new approaches to enhancing student success, facilitate high levels of esprit de corps and encourage individual empowerment.

PROCESS: The workshop facilitator will use a variety of methods: didactic presentations, small group activities, one minute papers, case examples, and active learning pedagogies.
STRUCTURE: The workshop will be structured around two different components presentations and activities that provide participants with an in-depth understanding of key retention concept and models.
FOCUS: The two workshop sessions comprise uniquely different foci:
- Activities and desired outcomes.
- Student engagement action planning principles and method
