Practical Expectations of Tech Prep

Through Tech Prep parents and educators can expect a reduction in dropout rates, increased graduation rates, and improvement in academic skills in mathematics, science, and English. Data shows (school dropout data) that career oriented education motivates students through practical application of knowledge and skills. Increased graduation rates will result in increased student matriculation to post-secondary education and provide the skilled workers needed for the global marketplace.

The activities of the North Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium are designed to accomplish the goals outlined above. One important component of a Tech Prep program is the vertical alignment of secondary and post-secondary curriculum through articulation agreements. School districts form an articulation agreement with post-secondary education institutions that allows students to earn college credit for high school courses. Another key element is professional development activities for educators which focus on integrating academic and technical skills across the curriculum.  Additionally, job market information on high need, high, wage, high skill and emerging occupations is also made available to students, parents, and educators.

In summary, Tech Prep accomplishes its goals by facilitating Professional Development, Curriculum Development, Marketing, Support, and Evaluation of the educational reform process.
