As faculty teaching in the core curriculum, your course shares many elements with other sections of the same course taught throughout the DCCCD. Discipline committees are responsible for the content of the courses in the core curriculum. DCCCD discipline committees are comprised of at least one full-time faculty member in the discipline from each of the seven colleges of the DCCCD.
Discipline committee members discuss proposed changes to course content, revisions to wording of course descriptions, addition or deletion of courses, and related charges. Each discipline committee member is responsible for sharing information and soliciting input from discipline faculty colleagues at the college.
These discipline committees have identified the Intellectual Competencies and Exemplary Educational Objectives which must be addressed in core courses. These committees have also worked collaboratively to identify assessment methods which may be used across sections and across colleges to determine student achievement of learning outcomes.
Your course syllabus should contain the course description, a list of the identified intellectual competencies, and a list of the appropriate exemplary educational objectives. In your course, you should utilize the assessment method determined appropriate by your college, in alignment with the recommendations of the district discipline committee. A syllabus template for your course is provided if you wish to develop it as your own.
