Evaluation of the DCCCD Core Curriculum shows the curriculum to be in compliance with state mandates regarding Texas Common Course Numbers and credit hour requirements for each Core Component Area. All courses in the DCCCD Core use Texas Common Course Numbers, with two exceptions. PHIL 1304 is the TCCN for the DCCCD course RELI 1304, World Religions. Also, one Unique Need course, CUST 2370, Cultural Studies, was included with the initial submission of the Core and approved by the THECB. This course was developed in response to the suggestion in the Core Curriculum: Assumptions and Defining Characteristics, "Institutions are urged to consider development and utilization of appropriate interdisciplinary courses as a means of helping students develop multiple perspectives on the individual in relationship to other people and societies. Comparison and contrast of disciplinary perspectives on an issue within the context of a single course can be a particularly effectively instructional device."
The following chart identifies the courses which constitute the Core Curriculum of the DCCCD and the Component Areas to which the courses are assigned. The chart also demonstrates that credit hours have been allocated to Component Areas in accordance with THECB stipulations.
