Summary

The faculty and staff of the colleges of the DCCCD have used the THECB requirement to evaluate the Core Curriculum as an opportunity to advance the effectiveness of its educational programs and delivery of instruction. In total, more than 500 faculty and staff from the seven colleges and district office have been involved in the core curriculum evaluation efforts. The plan to evaluate the core during the period from 2004 - 2009 requires that faculty consider evidence of student performance, compare data, and discuss student progress across disciplines and across campuses. The DCCCD 2004 - 2009 Core Curriculum Evaluation Plan requires district college committees to share the lessons learned in the quest for data, including both best practices and research pitfalls. This systematic method for sharing information and comparing results between the seven colleges should result in improved delivery of the core curriculum across the district and improved learning for the thousands of students who begin their academic pursuits at the colleges of the DCCCD.
