In 1997, when Senate Bill 148 passed the 75th Texas legislature, the faculty and staff of the Dallas County Community Colleges embraced the legislative call to action as an opportunity to revisit the general education curriculum that had been in effect for more than a decade. The result was the development of a new DCCCD core curriculum.
Since then, several committees have been working to ensure that the DCCC core curriculum is vibrant, consistent and aligned with the expectations of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Statewide Advisory Committee for the Core Curriculum. More than 500 faculty and staff have been involved in core curriculum evaluation efforts.
The Core Curriculum Evaluation Report 2000-2004 summarizes the initial evaluation of and efforts to support the new core, while the Core Curriculum Evaluation Plan 2004-2009 outlines the methods that are being used to continue this endeavor.
