Hands-on Training in Adult Education ESL Teaching

Note: There will not be any classes for the ESL Teaching Academy this fall. Please visit this Website in November for the spring 2011 schedule of classes.

Whether you are a volunteer, an experienced instructor or new to English as a Second Language (ESL), our quick affordable1 training will provide you with the tools you need to teach more confidently and effectively.

Learn methods and techniques that really work, while enhancing your ESL presentation skills and knowledge. The classes are approved as Continuing Professional Education hours (CEUs) toward Standard Certificate renewal2. (Note: If you are seeking alternative teacher certification, ESL Teaching Academy courses are not approved to meet state certification requirements.) In addition, students can build a transcript with a record of earned CEUs, which are recognized across the United States. A Skills Award overall certificate is also available to those who complete six core courses, two electives and the practicum and observation.

Previous ESL teaching experience is not required. As minimum requirements for participating in the program, interested students must hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, and have advanced-level English language proficiency.

Skills Award Courswork: This is the third and final step in the three-part program for the ESL Teaching Academy. An ESL Instructor Skills Award certificate is conferred to teachers who complete the six core courses, the two electives and the practicum and observation. At this time, the form to request the Skills Award certificate must be filled out with the program advisor.
