Every day, Debbie Hutchison serves her customers, both internal and external, with energy, excellence and effectiveness, making her a deserving candidate for Hero of the Month.
Whether she is offering her knowledge and assistance to a prospective student, a fellow MarCom staff member, or someone in another department or location, Debbie’s energy seems almost boundless. When a future student calls or drops by, Debbie often does much more than give them a quick answer or forward them to the right department. She asks them about their interests and goals, tells them about fields of study and careers they might consider, and encourages them. She spends as much time as necessary to guide them on their way.
Debbie’s energy can also be seen in the many activities she participates in that go above and beyond her job duties, such as volunteering her help for the African-American Read In or going to great lengths to plan a flower-pressing class for Renewal Week in Colorado.
Debbie also exhibits a dedication to excellence. Not only does she put energy into what she does; she wants it done well. For example, Debbie doesn’t hesitate to point out little ways in which the district Web site could better serve students. She’s also glad to offer her feedback when her colleagues need a fresh set of eyes to review artwork or edit copy. Debbie continually strives to improve herself by attending seminars and asking questions.
Finally, Debbie is effective in her position. She lives up to her title, "Information Specialist," keeping an amazing array of information about the district in her head or close at hand. If someone has a question, Debbie almost unfailingly has an answer or can guide you to someone else who does. From fixing jammed printers to helping students navigate their way through the district’s services, Debbie’s resourcefulness makes work and life easier for everyone she encounters.
For all these reasons and more, Debbie Hutchison deserves to be honored as our Hero of the Month.
