Ms. Roberta worked in the District Office Educational Affairs Office starting in 2008 and is currently with the Department of Outreach, Recruitment and Community Engagement (DORCE). She has many responsibilities; however, she is focusing on the new outreach faith-based initiative for DCCCD.

She assists with the different events throughout the year such as the African American Read-In, NOW (Networking, Outreach, Workgroup), DORCE and PSSA functions.

A famous philosopher once said, “One isn't necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can't be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.” Ms. Roberta is truly a mentor to women within the DCCCD and in the community. She has made a difference in many young girls’ lives, by providing valuable time and positive feedback. She encourages students and co-workers to strive toward their goals and let nothing hinder their dreams.  She treats everyone with respect and equality. She communicates effectively with others and always has something to smile about and a word of encouragement to brighten the day.

Langston Hughes, African-American poet, once said, “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.” It is embedded within her soul to be a part of something greater than herself. Certainly her leadership qualities have embraced many young women, because she is always willing to share her knowledge and wisdom with others. It is an honor and privilege to have Ms. Roberta as a valued member of the DCCCD.  With all due respect, I am beyond confident that her gifts of giving has benefited and enlightened others because of her years of experience in the educational, faith-based and private business sector. Without a doubt, I believe that Ms. Roberta is using her God-given talents to make a difference for her co-workers, family and the community that she serves.

I would like to nominate Ms. Roberta for the P.O.P.E. of the Month because her personality exemplifies a positive example of a DCCCD employee. Most important, her character is the building block of life. “It is not the style of clothes one wears, neither the kind of automobile one drives, nor the amount of money one has in the bank, that counts. These mean nothing. It is simply service that measures success.”
