Materials must have evidential, substantive, or informational value for inclusion in the District Archives.
Materials have evidential value if they provide evidence of:
- How Dallas County Community College District was founded,
- How Dallas County Community College District has developed,
- The purposes of Dallas County Community College District, and
- The results of the activities of Dallas County Community Colleges.

Materials have substantive value if they relate to substantive activities, or to those activities directly related to the purposes of the organization, e.g., education.
Materials that are not evidentially and substantively valuable may be considered for informational value by the Archives Committee. Bases for acceptance of materials for informational value may include the following:
- The age of the materials,
- The uniqueness of the materials, or
- Their relationship to historically significant persons or events.

EXCLUSION OF MATERIALS MAINTAINED IN THE RECORDS CENTER AND VITAL/ESSENTIAL RECORDS STORAGE
Materials that are maintained as a matter of course for operational and legal purposes in the District Records Center or at vital/essential records storage sites will not be maintained in duplicate in the Archives; however, when such records have been marked for destruction and have met operational and legal retention requirements, they will be considered for inclusion if they meet the aforementioned criteria.
