Background

Definitions

Developmental leave is defined as released time without salary for either one semester or one school year.

Eligibility

Procedures

Procedures for developmental leaves of absence are as follows:
  1. Application for developmental leave should be completed by the employee and forwarded through appropriate channels to the location CEO at least 90 days before the beginning of a semester or academic year for which the leave is requested.
  2. The applicant and the location Human Resources office will be notified of the status of the request, and a recommendation for approval of the leave will be made to the Board at its earliest meeting thereafter.
  3. During the approved leave period the employee may remain in the District's group insurance programs by paying the rate prescribed by the carrier.
  4. Upon expiration of such leave the employee may be assigned to a position comparable, but not necessarily identical, to the one held before the leave was granted.
  5. Salary increases will be prorated based upon the time the employee is on developmental leave.  {Ex. if an employee takes a one-year leave, he/she is not entitled to a salary increase; if an employee takes a one semester leave, his/her salary increase will be prorated in accordance with the length of the developmental leave and the contractual term (if applicable)}.
