Purpose

Not to exceed three (3) days at any one time for immediate family members – this benefit can be used multiple times during a benefit year (defined as September through August.) It is not intended to be used for multiple times during the same episode of bereavement.

Bereavement – leave days may be delayed to coincide with travel related to the funeral services.

Critical illness leave and bereavement episodes must be separated by at least one day of employee’s work in order to be awarded at multiples of three (3) days.

Supervisor must approve bereavement leave before attending funeral or service of a immediate family member or colleague.

Background

Definitions

"Immediate family" means spouse, child, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, sister, brother, grandchild, grandparents of the employee or other person who occupies a position of similar significance in the family of the employee.
