Employees of DCCCD are eligible for many different types of leave, and accrue leave at different rates. Find out what kinds of leave are available to employees and specifics about each type:
Professional Support Staff
Full-time administrators on 12-month contracts are eligible for 24 working days of vacation per fiscal year (2 days per month).
Maximum: 48 days per year can be carried into the next fiscal year. Accrual begins at date of hire.
0-60 months/1 day (8 hours)61-120 months/1.25 days (10 hrs.)121-180 months/1.50 days (12 hrs)181-239 months/1.75 (14 hrs.)240 months/2 days, 16 hours

12 days/96 hours per fiscal year. Maximum of 66 days can be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
1 day/8.0 hours per month. Maximum of 66 days per year can be carried forward into the fiscal year.
10 days/60 hours per fiscal year. Maximum of 66 days cay be carried forward into the next fiscal year.
Additional Types of Leave
Bereavement (for Immediate family members of colleagues)
Up to three (3) consecutive days, per episode, at any one time for an immediate family member and used for attending funeral services of colleague or family member. Immediate family: spouse, child, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, sister, brother, grandchild, grandparent or other person who occupies a position of similar significance in the family of an employee.
Birth or Adoption of a Child
Birthing parent/employee - Leave may be granted for a maximum of one full day without loss of pay for an employee to be with his wife at the birth of their child or for an employee or employees to be at the court proceeding for adoption of a child within the first 12 months of the birth.

Critical Illness (immediate family member)
Critical illness leave allows employees to care for an immediate family member during medical emergencies. Not to exceed three (3) days at any one time. If death occurs during critical illness, employee may take an additional three (3) days of leave. Immediate family members: spouse, child, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law or other person who occupies position of significance in the family.
Catastrophic Sick Leave Pool
Sick leave pool is intended to provide employee and employee's family during hardship and when employee has exhausted all leave time earned and must meet a 20-calendar day elimination period.
A maximum of 90 working days (720 hrs) or up to 12 working days for dependents (96 hrs).
Excused from work with pay for a subpoena as a witness in a case not related to the employee.

Professional Enhancement Program
Only full-time employees with three (3) or more years of continuous employment. Release time without salary for up to one (1) semester or one academic year.
Developmental leave offers full-time employees an opportunity to travel, study or participate in other activities that improve their skills

Extenuating Circumstances Leave
Personal business that cannot be transacted outside the employee’s normal workday.
Faculty Leave Banking Program
May receive up to one semester for professional development after seven (7) or more years of consecutive service.
Family Medical Leave Act
FMLA allows an employee time off without pay and without loss of any employment benefits.
Employees may be granted leave of absence without loss of pay when called for jury duty.
Any employee in a position of fiscal trust is required to take an annual vacation of at least five work days in duration.
An employee may be granted a leave of absence from their duties without loss of time, vacation days or salary to perform military service.
Return to Work

This program allows faculty/administrators to take a leave of absence of up to one year to engage in a special project, study or travel.
