Disability Services Accommodation Request Procedure
1. Contact the Disability Services Office.
2. Submit an application to the college chosen, and include transcripts if you have previously attended a college.
3. Complete paperwork provided by the Disability Services Office. Meet with a Disability Services advisor (appointment recommended). Present supporting documentation (including IPE from DARS) of a disability or a signed release for request of documentation. Initial meeting with Disability Services counselor includes assessment of educational, vocational, personal and accommodation needs. The counselor will review assessments and accommodation needs and explain degree plans (certificates or degrees), Core Curriculum or vocational plan approved by sponsoring commission, test score scale and developmental classes (allow up to one and a half hours).
4. Recent high school graduates (new to college) must attend new student orientation (allow two hours).
5. Complete assessment testing, when appropriate, in the Testing Center (with accommodations if approved).
6. Student makes appointment with advisor and brings a draft of courses student desires to take with times student is available for class. Complete student advising with Disability Services advisor. Accommodation needs are addressed at this time and provided dependent upon documentation and advisor assessment. Notice: Students are not required to be advised and registered through the Disability Services Office but will need to apply for accommodations through the Disability Services Office.
Special Accommodations:
If there is a need for assistive technology or a sign language interpreter, please allow two to four weeks for these accommodations to be put in place.
