Getting Your Money

How will I know if I have a financial aid award?

You will be notified by mail or e-mail when you have an award. You may also view posted financial aid awards, account summaries and other helpful personal information in eConnect, DCCCD's secure online services (login required).

How will I get my money?

Financial Aid funds are disbursed (distributed) in one of three ways:

  • by direct electronic deposit to your bank account
  • applied to your Chase E-funds Card
  • mailed to the home address we have on file for you (in a check)*

*Note: To receive a check, you must be ineligible to open a bank account under the U.S. Patriot Act. Typically, people ineligible to open a bank account under the U.S. Patriot Act are those not registered with the Social Security Administration.

When will I get my money?

If you receive a financial aid award before your credit classes start:

• Any tuition you owe will be deducted from your award. Tuition will not be deducted earlier than 10 days before the first day of classes.
• You will receive an initial disbursement of up to $600 unless there are blocks on your student record (for example, if you have an outstanding balance from a previous semester). You can use the initial disbursement to buy books and supplies for your classes. You will not receive this money any earlier than 10 days before the start of classes.
• You will receive any remaining funds eligible for release after the financial aid lock date and after beginning attendance has been certified by each of your instructors.

If you receive a financial aid award after classes have begun:

• Any tuition you owe will be deducted from your award.
• You will receive any remaining funds eligible for release after the financial aid lock date and after beginning attendance has been certified by each of your instructors.

To help you get your money as soon as possible, select your preferred disbursement method at the eConnect "Send My Money" screen. Make sure the Admissions/Registrar's Office at your college has your correct e-mail and mailing address.
