Kande Darilek teaches the Health Occupations core courses of Pathology, Introduction to the Health Professions and Basic Health Professions Skills I and II, and works as a faculty advisor in the Student Services area. She earned an associate degree in respiratory therapy technology from Denver Community College and a bachelor’s degree in allied health education from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In her almost 30-year professional career, Kande has held positions in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Colorado and has experience in all of the subspecialties of respiratory care: critical care, transport, pediatric and neonatal, home care, rehabilitation and education.
A registered respiratory therapist (RRT) and respiratory care practitioner (RCP), she has taught respiratory care full-time for 12 years and taught for four years prior to that as adjunct faculty. She received a NISOD Excellence in Teaching award for part-time faculty in 1995. Kande has been an active member of the Respiratory Rally Planning Committee of the American Lung Association since 1999 and a member of the annual state meeting planning committee of the Texas Society of Respiratory Care since 1989. She has held several subcommittee positions for the American Association for Respiratory Care since 1977. Kande’s areas of special interest are physical medicine/rehabilitation and pediatrics.
