Lois Ames graduated from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Mich., with a diploma in nursing. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Michigan State University and a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
She has completed post-graduate certification as an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner at UTA. She has been certified as an adult nurse practitioner since 2000 and holds advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and basic cardiac life support (BCLS) certifications.
She has taught nursing at DCCCD since 1989, first at El Centro and currently at Brookhaven. She also taught nursing at Texas Woman’s University, and for 15 years she was a nursing supervisor during weekends and summers at Baylor Medical Center in Irving.
She belongs to the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (NOADN), the Texas Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (TOADN) and the Texas Nurse Practitioners Association.
Ms. Ames teaches medical surgical nursing, pharmacology, management and skills labs at different levels in Brookhaven’s ADN program.
