Dr. Carol Stephenson has a diploma from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in St. Louis, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Indiana University, a Master of Science degree in nursing from UT-San Antonio, a nursing specialist (NS) certification in pulmonary disease from the University of Arizona, and a doctorate in higher education from the University of North Texas. She has more than 35 years’ experience teaching nursing in diploma and baccalaureate programs in Texas, New Mexico and Nigeria.
During her career, she has always maintained a nursing practice, mostly in medical-surgical and critical care nursing. A certified hospice and palliative nurse (CHPN) since 1990, she left teaching for full-time hospice nursing for seven years and has recently returned to teaching.
Dr. Stephenson has written numerous book chapters and articles, is a sought-after speaker at the local, state and national levels and has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing. An expert witness in many court cases over the past 20 years, Dr. Stephenson has received many awards, both for teaching and as one of the Great 100 Nurses of the Metroplex.
She teaches a variety of courses in the Brookhaven Associate Degree Nursing program at the extension campus at Mountain View College.
